Calponin-1 or Calponin H1, (smooth muscle) antibody is a peptide of 34 kD which interacts specifically with calmodulin, tropomyosin and actin. It actively participates in the  contraction mechanism of smooth muscle. It is exclusively restricted to the tissues of smooth muscles. This is highly useful for staining myoepithelium that makes it a good candidate to distinguish benign sclerosing adenosis (breast tissues) from infiltrating ductal carcinoma. It also reacts positively in case of angiomatoid malignant fibrous histiocytoma, pleomorphic adenoma (affecting the salivary glands) and malignant myoepithelioma.
